Trezor Safe 3 FAQs
This FAQ page covers common questions about the Trezor Safe 3 hardware wallet. If you can’t find the answer you need, our Chatbot Hal is available to assist you.
All Trezor hardware wallets provide a secure, self-custody solution. While hardware specifications differ, your crypto’s security is never compromised. The Trezor Safe 3 includes a dedicated Secure Element, adding extra protection—especially in case of theft of your Trezor device.
By following crypto security best practices—such as keeping your wallet backup (formerly called recovery seed) private and using a strong, unique passphrase written down and stored securely—you ensure your digital assets remain safe.
The addition of a Secure Element has been done in such a way that we do not compromise the open source nature of the Trezor Safe 3. This is discussed on the Secure Element in Trezor Safe 3 page.
When designing the Model One and Model T, available Secure Elements required non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), which conflicted with Trezor’s open-source philosophy. Instead, we focused on alternative open security solutions such as Passphrase and Shamir backup.
For Trezor Safe 3, we found a Secure Element solution that isn’t restricted by NDAs, allowing us to provide extra physical protection while staying true to our open-source commitment.
We listen to our customers, and added protection against physical attacks was one of the most requested features. The Secure Element enhances security, ensuring your crypto remains safe even if your device is lost or stolen.
When combined with features like Passphrase and Shamir backup, your assets are protected by bulletproof security.
