Support for older models
Trezor Model One and Trezor Model T remain safe to use. There is no cause for concern. As long as you have a valid wallet backup, your funds remain safe.
As of January 8, 2026, Trezor Model One and Trezor Model T will no longer be available through our e-shop.
These models have had long and successful lifespans - 12 years for Model One and 7 years for Model T.
In 2014, we launched the world’s first hardware wallet - the Trezor Model One, and for the first time ever created a way for everyday users to secure their private keys offline, leading the way to the birth of self-custody.
In 2018, we took it a step further with the Trezor Model T, adding a touchscreen and a cleaner, more intuitive user experience.
Both of these Trezor models have cemented themselves as a foundational part of cryptocurrency history.
Twelve years ago we didn’t have the experience and the tools to build the wallets that we do today, and we believe that our users deserve the best we can provide.
As everything naturally runs its course, so does the offering these two devices provide. While both devices can store your keys perfectly safely offline, new innovations in the hardware wallet world like secure elements and mobile access quickly became priorities for users.
Even though we’ve ended sales on our e-shop, the devices will still be available from our official resellers for a limited time.
If you’re using either device, there’s no cause for alarm. We’re committed to supporting both devices until at least 2036, so you can continue using them with confidence for many more years.
What this means for you if you have a Trezor Model T or Model One
- Your device will keep working as usual
- You will still have access to your funds
- No action is needed
We will continue to provide:
- Critical security updates for both models until at least 2036
- Basic maintenance for both models until at least 2031
- New coin support for Model T until at least 2031
After these dates, the devices will remain functional, but we recommend switching to a newer model for continued support and improvements.
Post-quantum considerations
Your Trezor remains safe to use. If stronger cryptography is needed in the future, we’ll provide updates where possible and recommend alternatives when necessary.
At the moment, post-quantum cryptography is still a developing area. Standards have not been finalized yet, and the timeline for when blockchains might adopt these changes is unclear.
When that time comes, wallets may need to support new signing methods to stay compatible.
Devices like the Trezor Safe series and Trezor Model T are expected to handle these updates through software. For Trezor Model One, it’s uncertain whether future standards will be fully supported due to hardware limitations.
In the future, if quantum computers become powerful enough, there’s a chance older devices which aren’t quantum-ready could be more exposed to certain firmware-related risks.
Quantum-ready goes beyond being able to sign transactions, it also means being able to verify that the firmware is legitimate. For more information, please read Trezor Safe 7: the world's first quantum-ready hardware wallet
Today, only the Trezor Safe 7 is designed to resist this type of advanced threat through potential future updates because it capable of verifying firmware updates when they start to use post-quantum cryptography.
FAQs
Do I need to upgrade to a newer Trezor?
No. Your current Trezor keeps your funds safe. There’s no need to upgrade unless you want the newest features or hardware. We will continue providing firmware updates for your device, and the earliest any model would stop receiving updates is 2036, so there is plenty of time.
Is it safe to continue using the device after the support period ends?
Yes. The main functions and principles of the wallet will remain the same, but we cannot fully guarantee this once the support period is over. For peace of mind, we recommend switching to a newer model when the time comes.
Does the end of sales affect support for my device?
No. Critical security updates are planned until at least 2036.
What support does my device include?
Support covers critical security updates, and critical maintenance updates until at least 2036, and new features and chains for Model T until at least 2031.
