Staking and Proof-of-Stake explained

Your questions, answered

How does staking ETH with Everstake work in Trezor Suite?

The ETH staking process in Trezor Suite is facilitated by our partnership with Everstake. Everstake is a leading validator with over 1,000,000 users across 80+ Proof-of-Stake networks. Trezor does not handle staking itself. Staking is conducted using Everstake's smart contracts and infrastructure. The staked ETH is fully maintained by Everstake, and Trezor assumes no liabilities.

What are the rewards for staking my ETH with Trezor?

Current ETH staking rewards are up to 4% APY. Please note, rewards are not guaranteed and may vary. The exact amount of rewards depends on several factors, including the total amount of ETH staked on the network and the current protocol rules.

What are the risks associated with ETH staking?

Staking is conducted using our third-party provider Everstake's smart contracts and infrastructure. The staked ETH is fully maintained by Everstake. In the event that Everstake ceases operations, there is a risk that you may not recover your staked funds.

What is the fee for staking ETH with Trezor?

A 10% commission applies to staking rewards. The fee is deducted automatically from your earned rewards.

How do I withdraw my assets from ETH staking?

Withdrawing your staked ETH is easy and can be done in a few steps within Trezor Suite. The process currently takes around 9 days. After that, your ETH is fully available to send or trade.

During the staking period, you cannot trade or send your staked ETH. You must be comfortable with locking away your assets for the chosen duration of the staking period.

Which Trezor devices support ETH staking?
Ethereum staking is supported on the following Trezor hardware wallets in Trezor Suite: Trezor Model T, Trezor Safe 3, Trezor Safe 5, Trezor Safe 7. Trezor Model One does not support Ethereum staking.
Why can the Ethereum staking APY change over time?

The APY (Annual Percentage Yield) for Ethereum staking can fluctuate due to several dynamic factors within the Ethereum network. These include:

Network inflation rate: Ethereum has a built-in inflation schedule that adjusts over time. As inflation decreases, so does the total staking yield.
Total amount of ETH staked: If more ETH is staked across the network, the rewards are divided among more participants, which can reduce the individual APY.
Validator performance: Validators earn rewards by processing transactions and producing blocks. If your validator underperforms or misses blocks, it can lead to lower returns.

These fluctuations are normal and reflect the real-time nature of blockchain staking. Over time, staking rewards tend to balance out, especially if you’re staked with a reliable validator.

Is staking ETH via Trezor available globally?

Trezor has no plans to restrict or limit Ethereum staking options. Anyone can participate. However, the availability of staking services in some regions is determined by our third-party partner.
