Your Trezor's screen always shows the truth. Malware on your computer or phone can change what you see on those screens, but it cannot change what your Trezor shows you. This screen is called the Trusted Display, and it gives you something reliable to check against before you receive or send crypto.
Why you need something you can trust
When you receive or send crypto, you deal with long strings of characters that are easy to get wrong and hard to check by eye. If you rely only on your computer or phone, a few things can go wrong:
- An address shown in an app might not be the one you think it is. A fake or tampered app can display an address that isn't yours.
- Clipboard malware can swap an address after you copy it, so the address you paste isn't the one you copied.
- A simple mistake can leave you with the wrong address, for example if a copy fails and you paste something left over in your clipboard.
In each case, the screen you're reading can't be trusted on its own. The Trusted Display solves this because it shows the real data your Trezor is working with, on hardware that malware can't reach.
The Trusted Display confirms what your device is doing: the real address it generated, or the real transaction it's about to sign. Verify when you receive
When you receive crypto, you share one of your addresses with the sender, whether that's an exchange, another wallet, or a friend.
To be sure the address is really yours, display it on your Trezor and check it against the address shown in the app you're sending from. Because the Trusted Display shows the true address held by your device, a match confirms you're receiving to your own Trezor and not to an address swapped or faked along the way.
