Check wallet backup on Trezor Safe 7

Trezor Safe 7 allows you to verify your directly on the device, independently of Trezor Suite. The check backup feature lets you validate your wallet backup without exposing it to a device that is connected to the internet (e.g. your mobile phone or laptop).

This feature also improves both convenience and security when using Multi-share Backup. You can travel from share to share and ensure you truly never have a single point of failure.

You should only enter your wallet backup directly on your Trezor device. Never store your wallet backup digitally or type it into your computer.

Check backup on Trezor Safe 7

  1. Unlock your Trezor Safe 7.
  2. From the home screen, tap the screen and go to Settings > Security > Check backup.
  3. On the ‘Let’s do a wallet backup check’ screen press Continue.
  4. Re-enter your PIN.
  5. Select the number of words in your backup, then tap Continue.
  6. Enter your backup words one by one on your Trezor Safe 7. You only need to tap the specific tile once, and the device will automatically match the intended word.
  7. Continue until all words in your backup have been entered.

If your backup is correct and you use a Single-share Backup, the process is complete, but if you use a Multi-share Backup, the same process must be repeated for each share.

Staggered Multi-share Backup check

When verifying a Multi-share Backup, you can take your Trezor Safe 7 to each location you store a share. It does not need to be connected to Trezor Suite.

The device will remain in check backup mode and store any correct shares that were already entered.

The check is complete once the threshold (the minimum number of shares required to restore the wallet) has been entered.

When using staggered backup check, remember that your Trezor cannot be used to send or receive cryptocurrency until all required shares have been entered. If you exit the process early, any progress will be lost.

  • Find a private place without cameras or distractions.
  • Do not record, photograph, or read your wallet backup aloud.
  • The words should only be entered directly on your Trezor Safe 7.
